Strange Phenomena in Animal Jam Classic (September 2023 Update)

Hello jammers! Asteralium back here with another blog post. Normally I’m not the type to jump at the opportunity to make an update post, but this time is different. Something extremely interesting is happening in the world of Jamaa on Animal Jam Classic. I won’t keep you waiting, let’s jump right into it.

Strange Phenomena in Jamaa

Without comment in the Jamaa Journal, the Lines of Power have reappeared in the center of Jamaa Township, glowing purple. And, at the same time, the armor on the Juno statue in the Temple of the Ancients has started to glow yellow.

A video from 2017 showing the Lines of Power leveling Club Geoz.

It’s been a bit since we’ve had something like this happen in Animal Jam Classic. In case you forgot, here’s a quick refresher on what’s important about these two things.

The Lines of Power: These ancient sources of energy flow through Jamaa. A map of them can be seen in the Forgotten Archive, and on the floor of the Greely’s Hideout den. In October of 2017, the lines appeared for the first time in Jamaa Township, and were connected to the discovery of the Forgotten Archive and Jamaa Eclipse the months earlier. In probably one of the most dramatic and serious events in the history of Jamaa… the lines of power converged around Club Geoz and leveled it to the ground. Club Geoz was a dance club that once stood where the Alpha Headquarters is now.

Juno Statue: Juno is an ancient arctic wolf hero, who sealed the land of Balloosh away to protect it from being taken over by the phantoms. The power that they used was so great that they themselves were turned to stone, becoming one with the temple. It’s believed that the statue isn’t just normal stone, but instead is Juno themself.

It’s interesting that two major historical sites have suddenly changed, with no comment at all in the Jamaa Journal to add context. We can only speculate what this could mean. And speculate we will!

Animal Jam Birthday, Monthly Bundle, and Hints

Rockin’ Artist Bundle

Let’s go through some of the other updates from this month to see if anything else might be related to these strange events.

First up, we have a new monthly member bundle for September: the Rockin’ Artist Bundle. For 30 diamonds you’ll receive an autumn coyote, pet snail, an art gallery den, and two outfit sets. This bundle is honestly worth it alone for the art gallery den, which has been out of stores for a while. It’s an excellent den for showcasing art, mannequins, or for making shopping malls. The autumn coyote is a fun animal, and the pet snail is cute, but they’re not particularly notable to me. If you don’t have them they’re worth getting.

You’ll also receive two outfits that are recolors of previously released items. The first is the… Rockin’… Geoz Outfit…? Huh. The Rockin’ Geoz outfit a dark purple and teal version of the rocker outfit (+ a studded collar) themed to the long gone Club Geoz. Which is an interesting choice. It’s kinda neat that they’d make an outfit calling back to Club Geoz now that the lines of power have shown up. I think these colors are really cool and I’d totally wear this outfit. I really like it. Though I’m not sure how well the items will match others.

The other accessory set is the fancy painter outfit. It’s a purple, yellow, and light green recolor of the painter’s outfit. It’s cute, but these items have never been among my favorites. The animations for the dripping tail and flowing paint on the hat are fun. Overall, I definitely recommend picking up this bundle. One last thing: Check out this snail that I got. He was actually just the first snail that AJ Classic randomly generated. He looks cute so I just took him as is.

Animal Jam Classic Birthday Party

Next up we have the fact that Animal Jam Classic is 13 years old! I… I can’t believe AJ is a teenager. Oh my god… I feel so old. This game has been part of like, half of my life.

Realizing how old I am aside, the yearly AJ Birthday Party party is back again. It’s the same as most years, taking place on a giant cake, selling bronze Alpha and hero statues, charm necklaces, and birthday music. Of course the candle on top of the cake has been changed, and this year’s birthday cake item has been added to the shop for 1,000 gems for all jammers. Below I’ve attached a small guide on all the secrets of this year’s cake. Be sure to click on the images if the full view or full title isn’t showing because of your window size.

This cake is a huge step up from last year’s pretty lame 12th birthday cake. It’s super elaborate, But it’s also the first birthday cake not feature the classic yellow candle design. It’s also… themed to… Club Geoz??? Okay, WHAT is going on here? Why is there so much Club Geoz stuff in this update? It hasn’t existed for years!

Aster’s Theory

So I feel like this can only be explained in one way.

Club Geoz is coming back.

That or the team over at Wildworks is feeling really nostalgic. But considering the lines of power are back, I don’t think it’s just that. Club Geoz is coming back. But how? Not how in the sense of “How are they going to add it?” but how in the sense of how is this going to make any sense in the lore of Jamaa?

There’s a couple ways this could happen. I don’t see Club Geoz coming back anywhere besides Jamaa Township. And I don’t think Jamaa Township is going to expand. Technically it’s possible, but in my opinion something is going to have to go to make room for it. Which leaves us with two options, because it’s definitely not going to be the Sapphire Shop or the Pillow Room.

  1. The easiest is to assume it would go where it used to stand, on the grounds of the Alpha Headquarters. But… I don’t know. I’m a bit hesitant to say that’s the only option. The Alpha HQ has a lot of important lore/story bits stored inside. Mira’s feather is there, the fortress beacon, the statues explaining who the alphas are, the wall of crystals, and the armor sets. And I can’t imagine the Alphas would willingly give up their HQ, or that Wildworks wouldn’t want to keep these important descriptions of lore items viewable. It’s almost like a monument to all the progress made during the adventures. So if the lines of power were to converge again and take down the Alpha HQ… would the Alphas be willing to let Club Geoz be rebuilt instead? Also, the Alpha HQ seems like a pretty sturdy building. Moreso than Club Geoz ever was.

  2. The other option is… actually getting rid of the Sol Arcade, actually. It’s a room that’s always pretty empty, and just about everything in there is either already in another place or could easily be moved. The arcade machine items were once sold in Mystery Emporium, after all. I think it’s a possibility.

So, the lines of power could converge again and bring another building down. But I think there’s something else going on here. We don’t really have an explanation for why Juno is glowing yellow. Except… potentially we do. Because if you look at offical artwork of Juno while they were alive, you’ll find that their eyes glow yellow… I think that Juno is going to be coming back to Jamaa.

Interestingly, there are no Lines of Power showing up next to Juno or in Balloosh at all. So while it’s possible Juno is returning because of the Lines of Power reactivating, it’s possible it’s due to something else. Maybe it’s due to some kind of weird time travel shenanigans that are only turning back the clock in certain areas? I’m not entirely sure. We just don’t know if Juno is connected to the Lines of Power or not. Or perhaps two major historical events just happened to occur on the same day.

The Archives will be sure to keep you all updated on what’s going on.

Other Updates

Okay, finally, we have a few random odds and ends from this update to cover. I’ve put the rest of the Jamaa Journal in a gallery below for you to check out. But that’s about it for me! Let us know in the comments what you think of this update. Also, follow the Animal Jam Archives on Instagram (and maybe me too..?) for more Animal Jam news and guides.

That’s about it. Cya around Jamaa!
