Animal and Environmental Jobs In The Real World

Hello Jammers! Candybats is here with a new series to the Animal Jam Archives! In this new series, we will be looking at the jobs and volunteer services our own archivers do! These all relate to animals and the environment! In our first article of the series, we will be looking at the job I have, which is working at an animal shelter.

What is my main job?

My main job at the animal shelter is to be a camp counselor. At the shelter, we host camps for kids who love animals! We have camps for dog lovers, science lovers, art lovers, horse lovers, and people who love animals in general. So far, I have worked with the camps that focus on dogs, science, and animals in general! We offer camps at a farm location and a shelter location!

Day to day activities:

During the day we get to look at a LOT of animals! The camp that focuses on all animals gets to see the most variety, here are some animals we got to see so far!

The dog camp gets to learn about how to train dogs! Some tricks we taught the dogs were how to roll over, sit, and stay. Along with learning how to heel and loose leash walk.

The science camp learned all about science with animals! We learned how to clean birds in oil spills and how animals get spayed/neutered. It was very interesting!

After camp is over, I help clean up any messes left behind. I find it relaxing because I love to dry mop the floor and throw away trash. It can be very relaxing!

Favorite part about my job!

My favorite part about my job is the variety of animals we have! We have animals that live on a ranch and animals that live at the shelter. More farm animals live on the ranch such as horses and goats. We keep dogs and cats there as well though! I also like working with kids and teaching them about nature. Tying education and animals together is the best and super fun!

How did I get into this job?

I have always loved animals ever since I started playing Animal Jam! I really wanted to find a career relating to animals. My friend encouraged me to apply for this job during the school year and I could not pass it up. I went to the interview and later they offered me the job! Now I get to work with animals and one of my closest friends.

How YOU can get this job!

Interested in a job like this? Ask your local animal shelter! They might have a similar program set in place. If not, you could always volunteer at an animal shelter too! We have people that volunteer to do all sorts of stuff like walk dogs, feed the animals, and clean cages.

Thank you so much for reading Jammers! Hope you enjoyed the first article of this new series, it was fun to write! If you would like to know more about my job or animals in general you can contact me on instagram @the_candy_bats. The next article will be about a job relating to the environment, so stay tuned!
