Silver Moon Academy Book 1: The Curse of Silver Moon Chapter Ten

Chapter 10

The next day, bright and early in the morning, everyone was instructed to gather at the Meeting Hall for an announcement and clarification.

It had been decided that full dress day would be moved from the day before, to the day of the meeting, which meant we had to wear our uniforms… unfortunately.

My friends and I were in our dorms, changing into our excessively decorated regalia.

I slipped my frilly white blouse on and fitted it nicely around my waist. Next, I drew up my royal blue satin skirt and secured it with the thick, silky ribbon, tying a quick bow at the back. Lastly, I slid into my fancy sweater and began to button it up in the front...

“Oh…” I sighed. The button was still loose. Amy looked up. “Oh, I'm sorry, gorgeous. I will be sure to fix that up tonight when we get back to our dorms.”

Once we were finished, we walked quickly back to the hall. Breakfast was to be postponed until after the meeting, for the gathering was too important to wait.

We slipped into the cafeteria and then into the meeting hall, where we quickly sat down and looked up at the stage.

Headmistress Marie was standing at the microphone, all smiles. She looked much less stressed than she did before when that nauseating Mrs. Harris was still here. Fine. Nauseating is a little extreme of a word, but no matter, it was good to see Marie happy and back to normal.

“Welcome students!” She called, her voice ringing strong through the air. “I have some exciting news to share with you all, as well as some sad.” The students all shifted in their seats as a wave and whispers spread through the crowd. Marie cleared her throat.

“We found the one who has been sabotaging our school.” Another wave of excited whispers rippled through the air. “It was our Secondary Headmistress, Mrs. Harris.” This caused everyone to gasp in shock as curious excitement fizzled through the atmosphere. Marie held up a paw. “But she did not work alone.” Silence. “She was assisted by her cousin, a student right here from our school.” She paused for a dramatic affect. “Anastasia.” She declared. I heard Evica gasp. “How COULD she!” The girl growled sourly.

“It was Harris that gave Anastasia the keys to your dorms. Anastasia was told to steal the uniforms, so she did. Then, later when they were returned, you all got the exact one that was really yours back because she knew who owned which one.” Murmuring filled the air. Headmistress Marie held her paw up again, indicating she wanted silence. Then she continued.

“Mrs. Harris was also in the office when the fire alarm went off. I did not know she was in there, and when she came out, she didn’t know we would be right there.” Marie paused. “We can not be certain who turned the power off on our first day, but we can safely assume it was either Harris or her cousin.” Someone near me raised their hand. “Why did she do it all? What was her purpose?”  They asked. Our Headmistress sat down and replied coolly, “Because she was a spy.” Confusion cracked in the room, like sparks over a campfire. “She was the Headmaster of Mira’s Academy. When Silver Moon Academy was built, students started to go from Mira’s to Silver Moon. This caused trouble for Harris’ school, because there were fewer students attending her academy.” Everything made sense. It was the perfect solution to the mystery. “She was here to make the school seem unsafe and unfit for learning so everyone would have to return to Mira’s”

Suddenly, Marie looked directly at me with a big smile. “At the end of the day, we have Isis to thank for saving our school.” I heard a scoff from nearby as Evica ridiculed, “Isis? That ridiculous, stuck-up, full of herself arctic wolf?” She glared daggers my direction and I burst into laughter, hiding my face in my fur. Denaé leaned in. “She just perfectly described herself.” The cougar whispered. Amy leaned in on my other side. “Perfectly described.” I hugged them both. “You guys are awesome. I never would have solved the mystery without you two.”

                                                          --------0oOo0-------

Later, we were eating a lovely breakfast of eggs and hash browns-- my favorite! Once we finished that, we started off to our first class which happened to unfortunately be Math. I sighed. Why did it always have to be math?

We walked to our lockers and grabbed our notebooks before hiking up the stairs and to the math classroom. We made it even before the warning bell, somehow. Mr. Calculous looked very surprised to see us.

“Good morning Miss Amy.” He started. “Miss. Isis, Denaé.” He dipped his head. “Are you excited to begin your studies?” He looked directly at me. I pasted on a fake smile and replied, “You bet!” I heard Amy beside me, smothering in giggles. Confused, Calculous looked from her to me and back before turning around to prepare the lesson.

A little while later, the warning bell and lastly the final bell rang as students finished filling the seats.

Mr. Calculous turned around with his blank face and began his mind-numbing lecture with, “Who can tell me what 602 · 42 · 34 is?”

I groaned and slumped down in my seat, tuning out his obnoxious voice and thinking about the case we had just completed. Just because I solved my first mystery here at Silver Moon Academy, did not mean we were going to be free of trouble forever. I smiled and glanced at Denaé. She noticed and smiled back, determination flaring in her eyes. Amy, eyes burning with a flame of fortitude winked.

We were sure of it. There were still many more mysteries yet to come…
